BEST TIME TO VISIT

There is rarely a bad time to organise a yacht charter in Tobago Cays. The tropical Caribbean climate means that daily max temperatures average between 28°C and 30°C for most of the year, with the water temperatures being much the same.

This archipelago does experience a wet season, so if you’re envisioning sunny days on the beach, the dry season of January to May is ideal. While the wet season can still be pleasant for diving and exploration, the occasional cyclonic winds can cause rough waves. We recommend avoiding the wet season and favouring a dry season visit for peak snorkelling and hiking conditions.

Observe the wildlife

Thanks to its status as a protected marine park, Tobago Cays is home to an abundance of wildlife able to live unhindered in their natural habitat. Bring a pair of binoculars to the Catholic Rock bird sanctuary to view nesting seabirds alongside protected roosting colonies. Set sail across to the Baradel turtle sanctuary to spend an afternoon snorkelling alongside majestic green sea turtles and hawksbill turtles.

Hike the trails

Nowhere in the world will you find hiking trails with scenery quite as striking as the Tobago Cays. Enjoy uninterrupted views of the Grenadines from tracks on Petit Bateau, Petit Rameau and James Bay. With trails to suit any experience level, pack a lunch and meet some of the iguanas and birds who call these islands home. While there are no restaurants on the Tobago Cays, this doesn’t mean your dining options are limited. We recommend Petit Tabac, which you may recognise as the island Jack Sparrow was exiled to in Pirates of the Caribbean. Experience the reef

No matter your experience level, Tobago Cays has an ocean exploration option for you. While many attractions can be viewed with nothing more than a snorkel, those wishing to scuba dive have a variety of options to explore. Horseshoe Lagoon offers shallower dives with beautiful coral views; keep your eyes peeled for the nurse sharks and eagle rays known to frequent the area! Off Mayreau you’ll find the Mayreau gardens coral reef, as well as the Purunia Shipwreck, a 140 foot WWI British gunship which sank in 1918. Experienced divers should visit Sail Rock. This area boasts an underwater cave and canyon, colourful hard and soft coral and friendly stingrays in abundance.
