Traditional island life in laid back Croatia
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Shoulder months of May, September and October still enjoy daily highs between 20°C and 25°C. Off peak visitors wishing to avoid the influx of those with summer homes in the area should consider a visit during these months.
Activities & Experiences
When enjoying your luxurious yacht charter in Solta, we recommend tuning into the sleepy island village vibrations. Spend your days relaxing, stumbling upon a new favourite restaurant or simply soaking up the sun in the bay. When you do feel inspired to choose a destination, give some thought to these hand picked activities:
Sample local products
With its temperate climate and rolling hills, Solta is perfectly positioned for the production of world class honey and olive oil. Visit the Tvrdic family in Grohote, who have been beekeeping and producing local honey for three generations. Here you’ll learn about their bees and have the opportunity to sample their delicious offerings. Elsewhere on the island, private tours can be arranged to explore olive groves and the factories which produce delectable olive oil. Take a bottle home as a unique souvenir.
Visit Grohote
Only 1.5km from the main port of Solta lies the ancient stone village of Grohote, ripe for a day of exploring. With a stark contrast of historic architecture and modern life, this town certainly has a special energy. Visit the final resting place of Vesna Parun, a prominent female 20th century Croatian poet, in a hauntingly beautiful graveyard next to the remains of an early Christian basilica. Built in the 16th or 17th century, Slavic tower is a castle formerly owned by Split nobles which now houses the Solta municipality offices.
Explore hidden gems
Some of Solta's prettiest coves are hidden from sight, easily accessible only by boat. Set sail to the southern side of the island to find your own private bay to soak up the sun in peace. Some visitors may be unaware of the many great ships that lie on the seabed below. Keen scuba divers can dive deep to marvel at these otherwise inaccessible treasures. No scuba certification? No problem. Travel to Mala Maslinica bay where you’ll find a shipwreck in shallow water that can be viewed with simply a snorkel.
Appreciate local art
There are two unmissable galleries on Solta island. In the centre of Grohote lies the Bratska Kuca gallery. With free entry in July and August, visitors can view a range of works by Solta artists established and emerging. Nearby you’ll also find the Buktenica and Buktenica Gallery. This gallery houses a permanent collection of pieces by two of Solta's most famous painters: Eugen Buktenica Denko and Vicko Buktenica.
