Where stunning natural wonder and rich history collide
BEST TIME TO VISIT
If your party would like to avoid the crowds on land, consider visiting from May to June, or September to October. These shoulder months still enjoy ideal beach conditions of sunny weather ranging from 20°C to 25°C, and the local attractions are generally less crowded.
Activities & Experiences
While onboard your lavish yacht charter in Split, your comfort will be assured by a fully staffed professional crew. However you choose to spend your days, we recommend checking out some of these must-see activities:
Palace of Diocletian
Located in the UNESCO world heritage site listed Split Old Town, is the Palace of Diocletian. Originally constructed in the 4th century AD for the Roman Emperor Diocletian, this expansive palace covers approximately half of the entire Old Town. Visitors could spend hours wandering the well-preserved walls of this impressive architectural feat. Originally constructed in the style of Roman architecture, updates were later made in Gothic and Mediaeval styles. This is a must see for any architecture or history buff.
St Duje’s Cathedral
Step back in history by visiting St Duje’s Cathedral, also built for Roman Emperor Diocletian. This stunning example of Roman architecture is the oldest Catholic cathedral in the world which is still used in its original structure. Although some restorations have been necessary over the years, the bulk of the current building is original. Take a moment to admire the wooden doors sculpted by Croatian artist Adrija Buvina in 1214.
Split Museum of Fine Arts
Debuting in 1931, this Museum of Fine Arts is home to more than 5,000 artworks and is a wonderfully whimsical way to spend an afternoon. Admire pieces created from the 14th century to modern day in the Split region. Thanks to the long list of societies who have gained power in this city over the years, the variety of art on display provides a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of art in multiple cultures over time.
Konoba Fetivi
For the ultimate in authentic Dalmation dining, spend a night dining at Konoba Fetivi. With a delightfully intimate courtyard and informal indoor seating area, patrons are welcomed here like old friends. Run by a family who have been locals for over 300 years, you can be assured you’re getting real local delicacies. Although many meat options are available, the centrepiece of this charming restaurant is its ever changing seafood menu. While the menu changes daily depending on what is fresh caught and in season, we recommend sampling the seafood share platter to experience the best dishes of the day.
Marvlvs Library Jazz Bar
For a relaxing drop of wine at the end of a long day, unwind in this cosy warren of hidey holes with a literary twist. Birthplace of Marcvs Marvlvs (father of Croatian literature), this bar is lined with bookshelves begging to be explored. Many charming 15th century features remain in the building, and it’s run by local poet and artist Agustin Sanchez. On any given night you’ll be treated to live book readings or soothing jazz while you rub shoulders with the bohemian locals.
