BEST TIME TO VISIT

Capri comes to life early in the year, blossoming in May with temperatures around 18°C to 25°C. The crowds are calmer during this shoulder month, and the sailing conditions are perfectly smooth. September and October are also shoulder months in Capri. The temperatures are similar to May, but the sailing conditions are not quite as smooth, and there are spots of rain during this season.

Come the peak months of June, July and August, this island attracts large crowds. Just five kilometres from Naples and easy to access by ferry as well as a private Capri yacht charter, the secret is well and truly out about this Amalfi gem. During these months, the streets will be filled with beautiful tanned people. Restaurants will require bookings in advance, and the entire island becomes electrified with the free feeling of summer—daily temperatures during this time average 30°C.

Thankfully, on a private yacht charter of Capri, you can avoid some of the crowds. All around Capri are secluded anchorages and perfect conditions for water sports. You just need to book restaurants well in advance, which your Ahoy Customer Service Manager can happily plan for you.

Activities & Experiences

Capri is a stunningly beautiful island with so much to see and do. Its waters are its greatest attraction, brilliantly blue, as though touched by magic. From land and sea, Capri’s activities revolve around the water.

So spectacular it should be a wonder of the world, Capri’s Blue Grotto is an unmissable attraction. On your charter of Capri, you can tender to this magical cave. Drop anchor and swim inside to witness the sunlight dance off the cave walls, igniting the waters to turn an electric blue.

The Blue Grotto is a common anchorage for superyachts in Capri to stop and spend the day. Lounge on deck, dip in the water and marvel at the beauty of this natural structure.

Nearby the Charterhouse of San Giacomo is the famous floral terraces of the Gardens of Augustus. Perched high up the mountainous face of Capri, this vista offers views of the Faraglioni rocks, Via Krupp and the Bay of Marina Piccola.

This tranquil garden is set on large grounds where an afternoon can disappear, exploring the numerous sculptures and the view.

Down from the Gardens of Augustus is the Via Krupp, a pathway looping down atop itself from the top of the cliffs all the way down to Marina Piccola.

Make your way down slowly and take in the unparalleled views out to the Faraglioni rocks and the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Take in a sunset at the Bay of Marina Piccola, watching out toward the crowds on the beach and the superyachts dotted along the crystal clear blue waters.

Whether onboard your own charter of Capri or watching from the shore, the Bay of Marina Piccola is the perfect place to sip an aperitif and watch the day close on Capri.

Elevated high above the water, Anacapri offers views out to the Tyrrhenian Sea and across the island. The best way to get there is by chair lift.

Not for the faint-hearted, the chair lifts to Anacapri are open – legs dangling below – as you ascend the island and look down to the vertiginous pathway of Via Krupp.

Anacapri itself is an idyllic village with spectacular views, whitewashed buildings, the Church of San Michele and the Villa San Michele. The former is a beautiful church that inside features ornate flooring from the 1700s and colourful maiolica tiles.

The latter is the lifework of Swedish Author Dr Axel Munthe. Built on Roman ruins, Villa San Michele is famed for its gardens and collection of sculptures and fine art collected by the Doctor throughout his life.

From 1363 until the Second World War, the Charterhouse of San Giacomo (Certosa di San Giacomo) was a Carthusian monastery. It was founded by Count Giacomo Arcucci, secretary to Joan of Anjou, the Queen of Naples.

Today it is a museum dedicated to German painter Karl Diefenbach and hosts various cultural events throughout the year.
